Hello, Earth Hero!
Humans consume. It’s what we do. And no matter what we do, there will be an impact (for better or worse) on the world around us.
I can admit it, plastics have modernized our lives in profound ways.
BUT – in the wake of the ‘plastic explosion’ of days gone by – a fast-paced, convenience-driven, waste- producing society was born. (womp womp)
The world’s largest corporations spent billions of dollars and decades convincing all of us that it’s ok NOT to think about how our daily choices (ahem – throwaway culture) impacts the world around us. And that the responsibility is solely on the consumer to properly dispose of all of this garbage. The worst part?
Production, consumption and pollution of single use disposables are at an all time high and only on track to increase exponentially over the next 20 years. Plastics are already plaguing our oceans, our food chain, and ourselves.
Plastics are everywhere.
From snacks to shampoo, everything we consume seems to be packaged in plastic.
It’s a non-biodegradable, oil-derived substance that has permeated our lives at every level and for the most part can not be or is not recycled – ever.
And the waste we can see is only a fraction of what we can’t see..
Well I say, No More!
Life Unplastic is a new choice. We understand that while we are all busy living our lives, we are also sick and tired of having to choose between convenience and harmful packaging.
Depending on you and your family’s current routine, it may feel extremely overwhelming to think about “going zero waste” … questions arise: Where do I start? Will it be expensive? What even IS zero waste? How will I live without my favorite (insert any number of things here)?
It’s important to take it one purchase at a time, think before you buy.
Find some resolve to end impulse buys, and remember: when you buy something, you are supporting that business – for better or worse.
My job is to curate an evolving menu of normal, everyday products that can help lessen our negative impact on the environment.
I look for products that check the plastic free box primarily, but they all check some other boxes too, like palm oil free, fair trade, cruelty free and organic.
Products like these should not be hidden behind multinational corporations – help us lift them up and let them know we support their efforts.
And know this: striving for zero waste is an opportunity to end the vicious cycle of overconsumption. Once you “quit plastic”, however that takes shape for you, other things start to happen. You may find yourself saving money, feeling free from materialism, becoming more connected to what you’re eating and nature, or joining and eagerly participating in a community with a common bond. I know because that’s what happened to me.
The bottom line is YOUR. PURCHASES. MATTER. They really do!
Show plastic manufacturers you mean business by doing business and consuming with makers that have the earth in mind.
It is my pleasure to continue to curate these products, bridging the gap between conscious consumers and eco-friendly businesses. Thank you for all of the support and I hope to see you in the shop soon, joining us in our journey to plastic independence. Vive la révolution!
