Arrowroot powder is a versatile ingredient that can be ingested or used topically. From thickening sauces, to powdering baby bottoms, arrowroot powder can do it all!

Arrowroot powder or Cornstarch?
Most people think arrowroot powder and cornstarch are interchangeable, but in some applications, arrowroot powder is a better alternative. First, its easy digestibility makes it a great option for babies and anyone with a sensitive stomach. And unlike cornstarch (which makes an opaque slurry), it creates a clear gel when mixed with water, so it's ideal for dishes where a specific color is desired. It does not break down when frozen or exposed to acidity, making it ideal for thickening homemade ice cream or a recipe with fruit.

Add arrowroot powder toward the end of cooking to prevent degradation from overexposure to high heat.

1. Mix equal parts baking soda and arrowroot powder (about a heaping tablespoon each) in a small bowl until the clumps are broken down.
2. For light-colored hair, you're finished! For dark-colored hair, mix in cocoa powder until you've reached a shade that matches closely to your roots.
3. Use your fingers or a comb to section your hair and use a makeup brush to apply a small amount of your mixture onto each section, directly onto your roots.
4. Gently massage the dry shampoo into your scalp using your fingertips. This will help distribute the powder and absorb excess oil.
5. Wait a few minutes to allow the dry shampoo to work its magic and then brush or comb thoroughly to distribute it throughout your hair.
6. Style as desired!
