Fair Trade Sucanat Cane Sugar - by the ounce
Azure Market
Made from crushing freshly-cut sugar cane to extract the vitamin-rich juices, heating until it is reduced to a thick syrup and then hand-paddling to create the porous Sucanat granules, our fair trade sugar is beautiful and distinctive as well as tasty. The process of the Sucanat Mill in Costa Rica is energy self-sufficient, using the cane sugar byproducts as fuel and to create electricity. The cane is "green cut" by hand without using any burning or spraying. It retains 100% of the molasses in natural cane sugar, and serves as the perfect topping for cakes, cookies, cereal, fruit, and much more.
Sucanat is NOT brown sugar, though it does have a bit of a similar molasses flavor, making it delicious in chocolate recipes.
